Abstract
Refugees undertaking vocational training bring distinctive experiences and potential, yet their developmental process is often shaped by specific challenges. This article examines the hurdles that arise during apprenticeships and explores how HR management can address them effectively. Drawing on a qualitative longitudinal case study conducted in a supermarket chain, based on 42 interviews and documentary material, the study finds that targeted support measures, while important, should be applied with careful consideration. Particularly beneficial for a successful developmental trajectory are mutual understanding and regular conversations between apprentices, supervisors, and colleagues, serving both as opportunities for reflection and as recurring status checks.
